Lyza is a cisgendered queer female, non-hispanic and of Euro-American descent. She got married to her partner Wendy of 4 ½ years in January of 2017 and they have two furbabies named Ele and Teddy. She graduated from Grand Valley State University with her double masters in Social Work and Nonprofit Administration and currently works as a crisis counselor at an organization called ProtoCall Services. Through her work as a crisis counselor she has found mindfulness as a helpful tool to support individuals in varying levels of crisis.
Through her journey of development personally and professionally she has come to appreciate pluralism as the fabric of what makes life new and exciting. Lyza has worked for nonprofit organizations for over 10 years including two years of AmeriCorps State and *VISTA service. She has a passion for encouraging people to find their authentic selves personally and inspiring professional brilliance.
Lyza is an avid intersectional advocate, supports equality and justice for all. During her second term serving as an AmeriCorps member Lyza co-founded the West Michigan AmeriCorps Collaborative which inspires AmeriCorps members to have a community, produce larger scaled volunteer events and encourage collaboration between hosting nonprofit sites. Since this opportunity to encourage culture change Lyza has a similar fire to encourage growth where ever she has been employed or volunteered.
Working for Momentum for Impact is a dream that has manifested throughout the many years of service projects, challenging discussions and encouraging sustainable change within the West Michigan community.
